Charles, Louis and Henry Mundt. It was later sold to John Mundt. At this time it is owned by Doyle Gordon who purchased it from John Mundt’s widow, Lena.

The property in Ossian was sold, and Sarah Scott and her family moved to Los Angeles County, California. No contact was kept with this family.

Edward’s oldest daughter, Mary Ann Scott married James McManus at Ossian on 16 Dec 1875. They lived on a farm southeast of Ossian in Section 24, Military Twp where Daniel Hageman now lives. In 1878 they moved with their two sons, Edward (b. 29 Oct 1876) and Henry (b. 9 Dec 1878) to Maine Twp, Ottertail Co, MN and homesteaded land where the rest of their family of twelve children were born. Mary Ann Scott McManus and James McManus were my grandparents. My mother was Margaret McManus Kipp who was born 9 Apr 1896 in Maine Twp, Ottertail Co, MN. She was the ninth child of James and Mary Ann McManus. The other children were: Rose, Elizabeth, Thomas, George, James, Lucy, Myrtle and a son, Thomas who died in infancy.

Edward and Mary Ann Scott’s son, Henrv Scott married Clara Bush in 1892. They moved to Austin, MN where he died 17 Apr 1919. Their children were: Henrietta, Mildred and Forest.

Edward and Mary’s second son, Edward Scott left home as a young man and was not heard from again. Their second daughter, Eliza Scott married William Garin. They lived in Minneapolis, MN where she died in Aug 1944.

Their third son. George Scott married Anna Devery from Clermont, IA. They lived in Minneapolis, MN where he died in Aug 1945. They had a daughter, Georgianna Scott Nelson.

Their youngest daughter, Efla Scott married Leslie Bush. They lived on a farm in Bloomfield Twp, very near Ella's home farm. She died 14 Mar 1929 at her home. She and Leslie were buried in the same lot as her father Edward Scott and brother Frederick in St. Francis Cemetery, Ossian, IA.

My father was Gideon Seegmiller born 10 Mar 1870, the son of Jacob Seegmiller and Mary Schwalm. He was married on 28 May 1902 to Julia Catherine Falck born the 2 Jun 1875, the daughter of Charles Falck and Marguerite Pfister.

In the spring of 1906 Gideon and Julia Seegmiller took over Julia’s family farm from the Charles Falck family. Gideon and Julia had four children: Harold (died in infancy), Leonard, Margaret and Gillmer. Julia died 11 Aug 1942 and Gideon died 25 Aug 1947, both in Decorah, IA. Both Gideon and Julia were active in church and civic activities. Julia was the first president of the Luther College Women’s Club who was neither the wife of a professor nor a college graduate.

Our family moved to town in the winter of 1924. During my life I had a number of jobs (starting when I was eight years old) delivering milk, papers and circulars. During the late twenties and early thirties, I worked in the gladioli fields for 25 cents an hour and later on a farm for a couple of years for $15.00 a month during the summer. I graduated from high school in 1933 and attended Luther College for several years. In 1933 I started working for the Graham Dept. Store chain and continued until 1938 when I went to the J.C. Penney Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Gillmer Seegmiller

In Oct 1940 I was married to Eleanor Braa, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Braa. We were married in West Union where Rev. Braa was serving the Lutheran church. I served in the Army for almost three years and was discharged in late Nov 1945 with two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. During my time in the Army I was first in the Army Air Corps and was trained and schooled in Radar. I finally rated as an Information Supervisor and Operator after attending John B. Stettson University in Delan, FL, Rolland College in Winter Park, FL and the University of Oklahoma. I was one of the Gl’s who was in defensive Radar when they transferred about 100,000 to the Infantry. None of us were very happy about this move. We had several months of concentrated infantry training and joined the 103rd Infantry Division and were shipped overseas. We landed in Marseilles, France and moved up the Rhone River Valley, finally going into action in Alsace, France. My time overseas was served in the heart of Alsace where my relatives had lived. Returning to civilian life I went back to work for J.C. Penney Co. Due to an injury I received in the service I quit and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for several years and then for the U.S. Post Office for the next 30 plus years. I retired from the Post Office in 1982 where I had carried mail on Route #1, Our marriage has been blessed with two children, Julie Kay and Steven M..
